Job Summary

The Optical Nurse is responsible for assisting ophthalmologists and optometrists in providing high-quality eye care services. The role includes conducting preliminary eye assessments, preparing patients for examinations and procedures, assisting during treatments, and ensuring excellent patient care within the clinic.

Key Responsibilities

Assist ophthalmologists and optometrists during patient consultations and procedures.

Conduct preliminary eye examinations, including visual acuity tests and patient history assessments.

Prepare patients for diagnostic tests and treatments.

Administer prescribed eye medications and treatments as directed by physicians.

Assist with minor ophthalmic procedures and maintain sterile conditions.

Educate patients on eye care, medication usage, and post-treatment instructions.

Monitor patients before and after procedures and report any concerns to the physician.

Maintain accurate patient records and update medical documentation.

Schedule appointments and coordinate patient follow-ups.

Ensure proper handling and maintenance of ophthalmic equipment and instruments.

Follow infection control and safety protocols at all times.

Provide excellent patient care and maintain confidentiality.

Requirements

Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.

Valid Nursing License/Registration.

Minimum 2 years of experience in an ophthalmology or eye clinic setting.

Experience assisting with ophthalmic examinations and procedures.

Knowledge of ophthalmic equipment and diagnostic tests.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems and Microsoft Office.

Preferred Skills

Experience in eye clinics, optical centers, or hospitals.

Knowledge of contact lens fitting and patient education.

Strong organizational and multitasking skills.

Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
