Pipe Welder 6G (Multi)

Job Summary

The Pipe Welder 6G (Multi) is responsible for performing high quality welding activities for piping systems in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), project specifications, applicable codes, and quality requirements. The welder shall execute welding works on various material types and positions, including carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, and other specialty materials, while maintaining compliance with project Inspection and Test Plans (ITP) and HSE requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Read and interpret approved WPS, piping isometric drawings, spool drawings, and weld maps prior to welding activities.

Perform 6G pipe welding for various material types and thicknesses using approved welding processes such as GTAW (TIG), SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW as applicable.

Execute root pass, hot pass, fill, and cap welding in accordance with approved welding procedures and project specifications.

Ensure proper joint preparation, alignment, fit-up verification, and cleanliness before welding commencement.

Maintain compliance with applicable codes and standards including ASME Section IX, ASME B31.3, and project specific requirements.

Coordinate with Pipe Fabricators, Welding Foremen, and QC Inspectors for fit-up inspections, welding inspections, and NDT hold points as defined in the ITP.

Ensure welding consumables are correctly selected, identified, stored, and used in accordance with welding procedures and manufacturer recommendations.

Perform preheating, interpass temperature control, and post weld requirements as specified by approved WPS.

Avoid welding defects such as porosity, slag inclusion, undercut, lack of fusion, and cracking through proper welding techniques and parameter control.

Conduct grinding, repair welding, and weld visual correction activities when required and approved.

Protect completed weld joints from contamination, moisture, and mechanical damage.

Maintain proper weld identification and traceability in accordance with project requirements.

Comply with project HSE regulations including hot work permit requirements, fire prevention measures, PPE compliance, and housekeeping standards.

Report welding abnormalities, equipment malfunctions, material discrepancies, or quality concerns to the Welding Foreman or Supervisor immediately.

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum 5 years of experience as a Pipe Welder in oil & gas, petrochemical, refinery, LNG, or power plant projects.

Valid 6G welding qualification certificate in accordance with ASME Section IX or equivalent international standard.

Multi-process welding experience including GTAW (TIG) and SMAW is mandatory. FCAW and GMAW experience is preferred.

Experience welding carbon steel, stainless steel, chrome-moly, duplex stainless steel, or alloy piping materials is preferred.

Ability to read and understand WPS, isometric drawings, weld maps, and piping layouts.

Familiarity with piping construction quality requirements and NDT acceptance criteria.

Good understanding of welding safety practices and hot work procedures.

Trade certificate or vocational training in welding is preferred.
